Respect Copyright Laws Poster
I created the following poster to give students another way of thinking about illegal downloading. Instead of calling it "piracy," since pirates are a popular cultural image, I used the word "thief," which has a negative connotation, to describe a person who steals digital property. I also wanted the focus to be on stealing from the musician, not the record label, and gave the message a personal feel.

1:1 iPad Initiative
In 2011, I was part of a grant with a small group of teachers at Yukon Flats School District that brought iPads into the classroom. Our main goal was to use iPads to increase the fluency of our students, especially with our struggling readers. Students would use apps to record their voice while they were reading and then play the recording back as they re-read, allowing them to self-identify their own mistakes. The state-funded grant brought iPads into classrooms in 9 school districts as part of a broader 1:1 iPad to student project headed by Bill Whicker. Below is a podcast about Whicker's iPad initiative and a link to the corresponding news story.

Respect Privacy Poster
I created this poster to remind students that more than just their friends are online, and the information they post will be viewed by parents, teachers, law enforcement, employers, etc. Because of this, they must be diligent in respecting each other's privacy, and never post information about someone else without their permission.
