Engaging Students in Real Life Issues
Powerful designs can have lasting impacts on how people think, and modern technology gives students access to many of the same tools that professional designers use. One serious issue affecting students today is cyber bullying and teen suicide, which are often connected. Students can use programs like PowerPoint or Pages to create designs that can impact how their peers view cyber bullying. Below is a design I created to engage my students and show them how they can use designs to impact real life issues.

Classroom Website -- Updating Parents and Students Not in the Classroom
I created this website using Wordpress.org software, and I teach my students to use this software as well. I actively use this website in my class to keep students who are absent up-to-date. The website also serves to keep parents and the community informed on what students are learning in my classroom. By putting my classroom online, students, parents and the community can play a role in assisting student learning and give feedback on the skills and information I am teaching, which is especially important in the cross-cultural environment in which I teach.
NETS-T Standard 3: Model Digital Age Work and Learning

Communicating Information in the Digital Age: eXe Module
Using new technologies to communicate information to students and peers is an important part of teaching in the 21st Century. One of the first modules I created for students was an eXe module explaining how to use iMovie. Below is an embedded live version of the module; you can scroll through and click on links.

Powerschool: Keeping Parents Informed
My school district utilizes Powerschool to keep parents informed on up to date grades and attendance. Whenever I update grades or attendance through my portal, parents can log in to their portal and immediately see the grades/attendance of their students. This allows parents to be immediately informed if their kids are struggling. . .or doing exceptionally well!
