5. MSEd graduates will know how to connect with all of their students, whether they be children or adults.
Digital technology, when used genuinely, is an easy way to connect with my middle and high school students. The ability students have to be creative with such technology allows them to personalize learning, and also makes the learning much more accessible to students of all abilities. Because I often teach in a classroom of diverse skills, I take great care to make much of my instruction available to a wide range of abilities, focusing on visual and concrete instruction instead of text-based.
I have taught for several years in a cross-cultural situation, teaching classrooms of predominately Native Alaskan students. I have also begun leading technology workshops for teachers in my own school district, and enjoy this chance to connect with and teach professional adults.
6. MSEd graduates will be familiar with technology
As can be seen in these sections and throughout my portfolio, I use a wide variety of technologies, and enjoy the opportunity to learn new technologies that can help improve my teaching.
7. MSEd graduates will be able to synthesize the new knowledge they have gained from all the classes we offer in our programs, and will know how to apply that knowledge in meaningful ways to improve their practice, improve student learning, and advance the field of education.
Many of these artifacts in this section (21st Century Schools) and the next (Professionalism) demonstrate how I have used instruction and assignments from Western Oregon's MSED:IT program in my teaching with my students. In fact, that was what made the program so enjoyable and rewarding for me, being able to take what I learned and test it out immediately in my classroom.
